Panama Hotel Restaurant

Open again since September 1, 2026, with Executive Chef Hiram Diaz cooking California coastal food that draws on kitchens around the world, alongside the Panama classics regulars know. Dinner is served in the historic dining rooms and on the garden patio.

Dinner only. The hotel does not serve breakfast — downtown San Rafael’s cafés are a short walk away.

8 of our rooms open onto a patio, balcony or sun deck: Venetian Room, Rosie's Room, Mimi's Bungalow, Maria's Pueblo, Lady Bracknell, Honeymoon Room, Garden Room, Bordello Room.

Air conditioning is in select rooms. Most rooms have a private bathroom; three European-style rooms share one.

Coffee and tea

Coffee and tea are served in the lobby every day from 8am to 6pm, and every room has its own coffee maker.

Dogs welcome

Up to two well-behaved dogs per room, 40 lb combined, $15 per pet per night. Dogs only, and they cannot be left alone in the room. Dog-friendly rooms: Mimi's Bungalow, Maria's Pueblo, Lady Bracknell, Garden Room.

Parking

Street parking beside the hotel. There is no hotel car park.

Smoke-free

The hotel is 100% smoke-free, indoors and out. A cleaning fee of $250 per night applies if anyone smokes.

Gerstle Park is one of San Rafael’s oldest residential neighborhoods: quiet streets a few blocks from downtown’s restaurants and shops, and 0.6 miles from the San Rafael Transit Center for SMART trains and Golden Gate Transit buses.
